Every solution that had run away

Spark
by Todd Warner Moore
copyright 2018
Found herself in the foothills
Twilight with no fire
Until she found her way back down
Found herself in a high-rise
In a job that she despised
Until she found her way back down
Every garden once a wasteland
Every ending was the start
Of something new
Every solution that had run away
Would wander home
when she’d given up her ways
It was the spark that
set a motion in her brain
Under a long dark spell
Then suddenly awake
Found herself on a tightwire
In the tempest of her views
Until she found way back down
Every different obstacle
Was never there to begin with
When she found her way back down
Every garden once a wasteland
Every ending was the start
Of something new
Every solution that had run away
Would wander home
when she’d given up her ways
It was the spark that
set a motion in her brain
Under a long dark spell
Then suddenly awake

Gift
02:33
|
|||
Moon in a dream
A pond through the trees
A mirror reflecting
Your eyes under ripples
A soft luminous blue
It could be a sign
Or all in your mind
Or could be the tide
Of your lifeline stretched
In the hushed
Stillness of night
What if these wishes
Intentions you send
Still remain
In some other plane?
What if they’re waiting
To greet you like rain
At that moment
You open again?
You can never know
Which way it will flow
You can't ever see
Past the tree-line
Connecting the sky
With water below
You can't always be
Alert every time
To troubles that reach you
When starting to climb
Just to fall
At the drop of a dime
What if you suddenly
stumbled from bed
To a seismic
shift in your head?
What if it dawned on you
Right at that time
To start living
Each day as a gift?
What if these wishes
Intentions we send
Still remain
In some other plane?
What if they’re waiting
To greet us like rain
At that moment
We open again?
Moon in a dream
A pond through the trees
A mirror reflecting
Your eyes under ripples
A soft luminous blue

Noodles
03:16
|
|||
Oregano and some garlic cloves
And a spoonful of pressed olive oil
Peppers onions basil leaves
Sizzlin' in the oil with a big bay leaf
My baby's got the blues
Brought down by someone so rude
And I don't need to say who
But things change with food
I've got the noodles
Cooking' in the water
And the flowers on the table
That I bought her
And she'll know that sauce
Before she walks right through the door
Ripe tomatoes from the vine
Stewin' in the sauce with the red red wine
Now you simmer that sauce so it's nice and hot
'Til the steam curls off of the iron pot
My baby's got the blues
Brought down by someone so rude
And I don't need to say who
But things change with food
I've got the noodles
Cooking' in the water
And the flowers on the table
That I bought her
And she'll know that sauce
Before she walks right through the door
Time to grate the parmesan
Maybe I'll even put a tablecloth on
Plates nice glasses forks and knives
And all of this awaits my wife
My baby's got the blues
Brought down by someone so rude
And I don't need to say who
But things change with food
I've got the noodles
Cooking' in the water
And the flowers on the table
That I bought her
And she'll know that sauce
Before she walks right through the door

Do You Really Know?
02:36
|
|||
Do you really know the ones you love?
Could you really ever know enough?
Enough to compensate for what they lack?
Enough to carry them on your back?
Do you really know the ones you love?
Through the waters running smooth and rough?
Do you feel a distant suffering,
When you find the other murmuring?
Or writing from
A different page,
A different cage,
The morning kiss,
The other missed,
The shopping list,
The dirty dish,
Forgotten fish,
A phone call missed,
A floating wish.
‘Cause it’s a chameleon...
Love that you think you know.
Can’t find it in old photos.
Can’t know which way it will grow.
And do you really know yourself that well?
Enough to contemplate another’s hell?
To see beyond a cloud of petty needs?
To intervene before the other bleeds?
And do you really know the ones you love?
Could you tell me what they’re thinking of?
Could you really ever know enough?
Do you really know the ones you love?
Or writing from
A different page,
A different cage,
The morning kiss,
The other missed,
The shopping list,
The dirty dish,
Forgotten fish,
A phone call missed,
A floating wish.
‘Cause it’s a chameleon...
Love that you think you know.
Can’t find it in old photos.
Can’t know which way it will grow.

Drift Awake
03:55
|
|||
They quarrel in tuktuks
Through Sri Lankan streets
They see sticky mud on Buddhist gowns
And move through these towns
There are stomach bugs woven rugs
While wipers fight torrential rain
No hint of refrain
Now her skirt is ripped
She can’t believe
they still take these trips
Much harder now
Than when they were young
She thinks
So once more
We’re back again
That unfamiliar feeling
So familiar
To drift awake
In a land
Where all
You bring
Slips away
from steady hands
Takes him back to Istanbul
So long ago
when they were new on honeymoon
They sailed down the coast
Jumped from dizzy cliffs
Ate the fruit
From painted window hotel rooms
Carved into caves
They were beautiful
Unaware
Of any kind of danger
That could stand in their way
He says
We should change
With each moment
That bubbles up
And disappears
And bubbles up
And disappears
To drift awake
In a land
Where all
You bring
Slips away
from steady hands
To drift awake
In a land
Where all
You bring
Slips away
From steady hands

Mess
03:34
|
|||
We carve expectations
On a cliff by the sea
And people take shape
Inside our scheme of things
We make our structures
Clockwork displays
No corruption
Corrosion
Obstruction
To get in our way
To cling to our beliefs
Is to cast them to the wind
A net that falls on everything we see
And when someone fails
To live up to our ideals
We ban them and bury them
Deep in the sand in our heads heads heads
Now I'm trying to make
The best of this mess
But it's it's
On again off again on again
With these tests
What if they're just constructs?
If it comes from within
Our thoughts may seem like rocks
But a river runs everything thin
If we were to let go
Of these notions we
hold hold hold
Could we see other souls
Beyond the bars of our thoughts?
To cling to our beliefs
Is to cast them to the wind
A net that falls on every face we see
And when someone fails
To live up to our ideals
We ban them and bury them
Deep in the sand in our
heads heads heads
Now I'm trying to make
The best of this mess
But it's it's
On again off again on again
With these tests
I'm trying to make
The best of this mess
But it's it's
On again off again on again
With these tests

In the Water
02:09
|
|||
I can’t believe
How much I love you
And I can’t believe
What I put you through
But in the core of any typhoon
We start to feel so good
Like we know we should
That we can feel so good
Like we've always known we would
It’s in the water
It’s in the ground
Beneath our feet
Past the clouds
Around our hearts
Are the seeds
Of who we are
It’s in the water
It’s in the air
It's in the woods
How we free
Our lightning minds
When we feel so good
Just like we know we should
That we feel so good
Like we've always known we would
I see the people on their feet
Their faces staring at the street
Only so much sorrow you'll take
Until it comes down to make or break
Until it comes down to make or break
It’s in the water
It’s in the ground
Beneath our feet
Past the clouds
Around our hearts
Are the seeds of
Who we are
It’s in the water
It's in the air
It's in the woods
How we free
Our lightning minds
When we feel so good
Like we know we should
That we feel so good
Like we've always known we would

Right Inside This Room
03:15
|
|||
Troubled sounds you make
When you're fast asleep
Winter lake on the other side
When you're waking up
I will feel your cup
With these words
All the frets and fears
Lose weight of wind
In the morning time
Just and instant's glimpse
Through the light
In the kitchen window
Radiator glow
All through the room
And I just know
Something's round the corner
And I just know
This is where I want to be
Everything we want
Everything we need
Is right inside this room
It's the winter car
Just about to start
It's the whistling
Of the tea
When the squirrels slip
From the frozen trees
In groups of three
All the frets and fears
Lose weight of wind
In the morning time
Just and instant's glimpse
Through the light
In the kitchen window
Radiator glow
All through the room
And I just know
Something's round the corner
And I just know
This is where I want to be
Everything we want
Everything we need
Is right inside this room

Crashing Down
03:27
|
|||
Fiery claims they
aimed at each other
Would unhinge the bonds
And the wonder
They had weathered wars
in the past
But those words
this time everlasting
Little things they said
Poison in their heads
Wild weeds into
Their garden spread
And when it all came
Crashing down between them
To a shattered inventory
And when it all came
Crashing down between them
How they held
To their stories
And had they known
It would lead to this day
Would they ever ever have
Let those words fly that way?
Quick to sense
The world beyond our heads
Can’t rewrite those things
Once their said
Just to wait with
future reactions
Just to find that pause
Before action
Little things they said
Poison in their heads
Wild weeds into
Their garden spread
And when it all came
crashing down between them
To a shattered inventory
And when it all came
crashing down between them
How they held
to their stories
And had they known
It would lead to this day
Would they ever ever have
Let those words fly that way?
Would they ever ever have
Let those words fly that way?

Already There
03:38
|
|||
Too many times,
Couldn't find my journey's end
Then a feeling
I was already there
It's not déjà vu
Undeniably new
Just a feeling
That I'm already there
And the winters,
Of quiet incertitude
Dissolving
Under this love, love, love, love
So we do what we do
Go to work, make a living
We move through
Like we're already there
How did we meet?
All the points
Intersected
Separate junctures
On those Budapest streets
And if we hadn't met
Then who would we be?
Couldn't be
For we were already there
And the winters
Of quiet incertitude
Dissolving
Under this love, love, love, love
So we do what we do
Go to work, make a living
We move through
Like we're already there
And to know of a peace
Even when you can't see
Through the curtain
Or to speak in the dark
When it seems such a risk
To be certain
That each day
Couldn't be any other way
We are already there
We move through
We move through
We move through

Bird's Eye View
03:05
|
|||
You've settled right down
Down into your comfy chair
favourite book
Stereo hums
A silken
flute concerto
You may float between
that movement
And contemplate
The vastness of
The wall
Right above your PhD
'Cause you've got it all
But you don’t know it
You've got a splendid
Bird's eye view
Of your world
And you know that it's alright
Just beyond the fight or flight
Nothing you lack
There's no dark past
Behind your back
Lost and you're found
In that swirling
mellifluous sound
That circles and spins
around and around
All the thoughts
In knots
That got you
Will unravel
To threads
Into dust
Cause you've got it all
But you don’t know it
You've got a splendid
Bird's eye view
Of your world
And you know that it’s alright
Just beyond the fight or flight
So what do you do
With this flake of truth
In the heart of
Sunday afternoon?
If you go into town
You’ll lose that tune
Forever
So you loosen your grip
From its tightening bite
Then slip into
A dreamless state of sleep
That will last
into the morning
'Cause you've got it all
But you don't know it
You've got a splendid
Bird's eye view
Of your world
And you know that it's alright
Just beyond the fight or flight
That everything will be alright

A man will read a thousand books
His wife reads one book all the time
He says “you don’t know how to explore”
She says “you don’t read between the lines”
He’s thumbing through the pages
But the answer’s on a post-it note
He pasted in the closet of his mind
So long ago
We do what we do
We see what we want to see
Be who we want to be
Flee if we gotta flee
It’s all the same
It’s how we choose to use the lens
Or there’s the man who’s planted seeds
In several countries in the world
His flowers grow up without water
Just a postcard here or there
To search the corners of the world
For salts from foreign seas
When you can find them in the tears
Which run down your lovers’ cheeks
We do what we do
We see what we want to see
Be who we want to be
Flee if we gotta flee
It’s all the same
It’s how we choose to use the lens
A man will read a thousand books
His wife reads one book all the time
He says “you don’t know how to explore”
She says “you don’t read between the lines”

We see what we want to see
Be who we want to be
Flee if we gotta flee
It’s all the same
It’s how we choose to use the lens
The lens
